In a CO-OP, community benefits take priority over profits. BUT, we are a business, so we want to make profitable returns to:
a) justify future investments
b) keep our members and investors engaged
c) attract new ones
d) make periodic dividends of extra profits to our investors
We use a "slow money" investment strategy, where long-term and modest returns are acceptable – even desirable -- because the invested money circulates locally, and provides many other benefits back to the members, investors and our community.
